SledDog Lodge is a premier sled dog training facility and caters to mushers.  Others, such as bear, deer and bird hunters find the open spaces a splendid place to hunt.  End-of-day stories told around the wood heater is a nice way to cap off a day spent in Michigan’s woodland.

SledDog Lodge

Group Cabin

Small Cabin

The main lodge is the Iditarod training headquarters used by Jim and the Warren family throughout the fall and winter.  There are bunks and space for up to 4 visitors and is an excellent opportunity to experience up close the life style of the Iditarod family.

Camping nearby is the choice of some.  Dog water, and other lodge facilities are available.

The cabin has 6 bunks, a full kitchen and bath.  Yes a microwave, shower and flush toilet, which are considered luxuries by most dog camp standards.  If you need computer hookup, your own phone line is available, although cell phones work pretty well.  Chain pickets for up to 40 sled dogs are included.  This is a great find for the serious Iditarod musher.

The cabin, often called the Handlers Cabin is an efficiency apartment with full bath and kitchen.  It has all the same feature as the larger cabin, and chain pickets for up to 30 dogs.

SledDog Lodge is located 1 ½ hour drive North of Mackinaw Bridge and is 5 miles Northwest of Tahquamenon State Park.  The nearest neighbor is about 3 miles away.  The town of Paradise is 24 miles away.  In the opposite direction the town of Newberry is also 24 miles and has a good selection of motel, auto service, grocery, hospital, and restaurants.

Please note SledDog Lodge is a working dog camp, not a hotel.  Everyone is expected to lend a hand and help as needed with a snow shovel, or preparing meals, or hauling the nights supply of wood for the main lodge heater.

In winter after snowfall, you can expect to see dog teams departing and arriving at all hours of the day and night.  Sometimes you will awake to find a neighbors dog team parked in the yard resting on straw with the musher sleeping alongside of the team. This is normal and part of life at SledDog Lodge.

Prepare yourself to absorb life at a different pace.  Experience the dogs, the snow, and the trails, at a place that is different than anyplace you have ever been.
